Marquee Film Productions was established by filmmaker, Dominic Ozanne, in the mid-1990s to make premium documentaries for mainstream broadcasters. 

 

Our first production was a film for BBC Inside Story, based on access to a secure unit for children who are serving life sentences for the most serious crimes, including murder. The film was made and broadcast on BBC1 around the time of the notorious murder of James Bulger by two ten-year-old boys. We went on to make a film for Channel 4 Dispatches, The Khartoum Connection, about the first attack on the World Trade Centre and the attempted assassination of President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt. This was the first piece of investigative journalism to identify Osama Bin Laden (who was then living in Khartoum) as the sponsor of acts of international terrorism, five years before the attack on the Twin Towers on 9/11.

 

We have a particular interest in African subjects.  We made a feature length for BBC Storyville, Romancing The Throne, following the coronation of the King of Lesotho and his search for a bride to make his queen that was shot over five years. We made another film, also shot over a five-year period, following teenage footballers from both Soweto and south Johannesburg who dream of becoming soccer stars int he New South Africa. The film was shown in the BBC This World strand.

 

Other films include: an observational documentary following the only police Occult Crimes Unit, based in Pretoria, as they go about their work; and a feature length doc for ITV about bad boy of American literature Bret Easton Ellis.

 

We are currently in production on a feature doc, shot over twelve years, about a boy from the Cape Flats, one of the most impoverished and violent places on earth, who dreams of becoming a ballet star and travelling the world.
